Fruit - as much as you can

There is no recommended amount of fruit to store.  The best thing to do is to grow and store as much as you can.  Any amount will enhance your diet both with flavor and nutrition.

Canned or Packaged Fruit

Canned or packaged fruit can be expensive and I find that there is rarely a good sale on it.  But here are some items to consider including in your food storage:

  • pineapple
  • applesauce
  • pears
  • peaches
  • apricots
  • cranberries
  • mandarin oranges
  • fruit cocktail
  • canned fruit juice
  • bottled fruit juice
  • frozen concentrate
  • prunes
  • raisins and other dried fruits
  • dehydrated bananas
  • dehydrated applesauce
  • dehydrated apples
  • frozen berries

Storage

The shelf life of these foods is approximately a few years.  Check the can or package label.

Fruit in the Garden

Many fruits can be grown in your garden.  The types of fruit you can grow will depend upon your geographical location.  Be adventurous and try growing something new this year!
