Items in bold are whole grains. Try to store at least 150 lbs/ person/ year of these grains to maintain a balanced diet high in fiber, B vitamins, and iron in your food storage. But remember brown rice has a very short shelf life (6 months.) Only store enough brown rice that your family will eat in this period of time.
Here is a general guideline per person per year to get you started with your food storage:
Hard Wheat 90 lbs (2 buckets)
Oats 25 lbs (1 bucket)
Rice 44 lbs (1 bucket)
Pasta 100 lbs (4 buckets)
Flour 40 lbs (1 bucket)
This is a good starting point. You may modify it to fit your dietary needs and food preferences.
